Rest in peace Ken Fritz

Just saw that former Ironton Tiger/ Ohio State Buckeyes offensive lineman Ken Fritz has passed away.
I’ll be praying for his family and friends during this time of grief.

Re: GA football

Man what is it with these schools always changing coaches?
What ever happened to letting the coaches coach and the athletes earning their positions or playing time?

Yes he has according to an article in the Ironton Tribune. He’s only a junior also. Super young man too.

Re: Minford Football

In May 2017, Coal Grove hired a head football coach who was in his early-mid-20s, and six months later they were playing for a regional championship. Gallia's coach who just left was 24 when he was hired and has an outstanding record that landed him a Division I HS job. Everyone has to start somewh...

Re: What will it take for an SEOP area team to rise up to state-level competitor?

It’s going to take several things. Firstly a coach that can motivate the players, players buying in, the community getting behind the team, parents letting the coach actually coach, and a little bit of luck doesn’t hurt either. Look at Kirtland for example. Tough, gritty, never quit attitude from t...

Re: SOC to vote on 3 Football Divisions (Thurs.)

I think the biggest issue with any possible merger between the SOC and OVC is this; Logistics. It would make some of the travel between schools kinda difficult. Especially if it were divided by enrollment numbers or competition levels. Gallia/Fairland to Waverly for example. Or Northwest to Chesapea...

Re: Kirtland vs Versailles

Years ago, Ironton had a lot more residents than they do now. Plus, there was a lot of industrial jobs to boot. Most guys could graduate from high school and then either go to work at Armco( AK steel) Ironton Iron, Cement Salvy, Ashland Oil( Marathon Petroleum) or Allied Signal. Only one of those p...

Re: How Ironton & Burg can both win a state title in D5

Pretty good analysis for both teams. Ironton has struggled with untimely penalties that have killed drives on offense or extended drives on defense. Burg I feel can help themselves by keeping it simple on offense. Establish a running game and use a simple but effective pass attack to keep a defense ...

Re: Worst Restrooms In The State?

Good ole Memorial Field in Gallipolis. They literally flood at least once a year, they are tiny and smell like sewage. I second this All I saw at Gallia were porta-pots. I know the visitors side does. Home side restrooms are in the white block building by the corner of the end zone by the scoreboar...

Re: [=== OVC (2023-24) ===] -- Schedule/Results/Standings

I just saw Coal Groves schedule. I know it’s not OVC related, but they’re heading to Cherokee NC for their holiday tournament right after Christmas. They traveled there in 2017 and came back as runner-up. Tournament is fun to watch. There were teams from Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina and...
