A Sad Note...

Post by robycop3 »

Tom "The Horse" Perdue, perhaps the most-celebrated football player in Huntington, WV, passed away, age 74, Sept. 15 in Greenville, NC. His obit is in today's Herald-Advertiser.

Tom graduated from Vinson HS in 1958, where he starred not only in football, but in baseball as well. He went on to Ohio State where he was co-captain of the 1961 championship team, and All-American as a defensive end, and Academic All-American as well. He hit.469 in baseball one season, an OSU mark that stands to this day. He opted to try pro baseball rather than football, and played 4 seasons in the Reds' minor league system before opting for a business career, which was quite successful.

Let us remember Tom as a great human being who just happened to be a good athlete.
