Dang, heck of a game to start the season. Sounds like Fairland is going to win some games this year for sure, getting down 2 scores in the 3rd against a running team like West and to pull it out. Congrats to Fairland.

Ugh what a tough one. I think these was two pretty evenly matched teams. They both are going to win some games. I think Fairland might actually be better. Gonna try not to complain much after a hard fought close loss, but I feel like we didn’t put our kids in the best position to close it out. Started to try to run the clock towards the end of the 3rd in a close game. You have to play to win, not play to not lose. It wasn’t comfortable enough yet to get that conservative. On the same note , we have weapons. But the play calling just came off as really predictable and stagnant. Bishop is a playmaker, and he needs to trust his legs. He’s anticipating getting hit way too early instead of burning them and it’s costing him. Oline needs work but I don’t think it’s unfixable. Once again, Fairland is a really good team. On another note. Klaiber swarms to the ball on defense, he is fun to watch. Big game, big crowd , and a good game for the opener for coach. Take it on the nose and bounce back this week. If we don’t lose focus we can definitely still compete for an SOC.

Decided to go down and check this game out. Started off slow, ended up being a good game between 2 pretty evenly matched teams. Fairland won, but I’m not sure they are really the better team of the 2. West play calling got predictable late in the game. If not for that I think they score and win, but that’s the old coulda shoulda woulda. Same can be said for Fairland though. West pass defense wasn’t great, Fairland should have taken advantage of that more than they did. I’d say both teams will win 6+ games and make playoffs.

One thing that you really worry about the first game is special teams. West got one scrimmage and special teams aren’t live anyway. Then you get cramps and trying to give guys breaks you get a lot of young guys out there in their first action.

Tough loss for west but nothing to be ashamed about. Fairland has a solid squad and could possibly head into the playoffs with just one loss in the regular season.
