Season Rushing Record at Portsmouth West?

Post by DaRecGuy »

What is the record? From what I understand records are either poorly kept or not kept at all by the school, so lets see if we can come up with it on our own

I believe that the county record is held by someone from Green. I remember seeing a football in their trophy case at the high school. I don't remember the name or the yardage. I'm sure it was under 1900 yards though.

My guess would West's new softball coach has the record. I can't think of his name right now though. If not him maybe Terry Gardner from back in the 70's.

Gardner was good but he had Hamilton with him, so I think it would be hard for him to amass too many yards. I would guess 1500 would break the record?

I think that record belongs to Bart Evans, he had 1,323 his senior year...Jarrod Pendleton also had close to 1300...maybe it was more, I think it is between those two though

No 2000-yard rusher in Scioto County history? I find that hard to believe.

:?: Side question to you West fans. Do you think West can lay claim as "Tailback U" of the SOC II in this decade? They've had some real good runners who would match up well against anyone else in the county other then maybe PHS. Is this a fair and realistic statement?

I think so...2000-2002 they had Lens and Cantrell...In 2003-2005 Jarrod Pendleton (Ruggles was good one as well)...In 2006 Seevers...2007-2008 Swords and now Trevon Pendleton...almost every one of those guys rushed for 1000 yards...Swords, Pendleton, and Lens were back of the year (and if it wasn't for Walls, Seevers would been too)

I am fairly certain that Jo Jo broke 2,000 in '01 and that Bolden did it in '02. In 2000 I believe we were close to having three 1,000 rushers. All that aside, Pendelton is a heck of a back and I look for him to be a big time D1 recruit next year.

I promise you.. That since 1990 the statistics kept at West are as good or better than anyone in Ohio. What the school chooses to do with them after that is their own problem.

Don't know if they were official but Morris Gullion(East) was believed to have had well over 2000 around 1960. Voted best scioto county team ever.

With that many tailbacks with big numbers, it sounds to me like we should ask a different question. 'Do you think West can lay claim as O-line U of the SOC II in this decade?'
