winter bass fishing

Has anybody tried to face the frigid temps for that big fish. Ive read if you use a big bait and fish it slow you will have success. Has anybody tried?
If you can find water that's not frozen, it's still going to be tough. One reason is that it takes about 2 weeks for a fish to digest it's meal when the water is 40 and below. That same meal would be digested in just a few hours in 70 degree water. So, you can imagine how seldom the fish feeds during the winter and you can count they're not going to chase something and spend those calories.
Another thing too, fall into the water this time of the year, you can be in trouble quick.
We used to do good in the (very) shallow backwaters on the river tributaries in Feb. On a mild day and if you got any sunshine, the water could start out in the mid-30's and be around 50 by late afternoon and you could get into them. We used to catch them on a black and yellow mepps spinner then and there
