Re: Monroe Central @ Caldwell 12-2 Opener
I'll be attending the game tonight, and I look for Caldwell to come out and start the season strong with a 50-41 victory. I'll try and give a somewhat in-depth review of the game tonight.

Re: Monroe Central @ Caldwell 12-2 Opener
excited to see the boys play a real game. This fall flew by, hard to believe we are here already. I expect a really competitive game tonight. I feel like Central has more horses but it will come down to who executes the best and doesn't let their nerves get the best of them. If Caldwell avoids a slow start they have a great chance, they can't afford to fall behind early though. I expect a quality game from Jensen Croucher and Jonathon Weichman assuming both stay out of foul trouble. They will have to contain the big boy and baker if they want to win as well. Good luck tonight boys.

34-27 MC at halftime. Caldwell not converting at the charity stripe. Probably 6 to 8 missed ft's already. Svercek 5 for 5 on 3 pt attempts.

Caldwell up 51-42 after 3. Shooting the 3 ball well. Pressure seems to be getting to MC.

Once Caldwell put the press on it was pretty much over. MC just couldn't handle the pressure. Svercek had a big game. 6 made threes I believe. Got a couple big buckets from Abrams and Willy as well.

Kind of had an off night shooting wise, but he did have a few nice drives to the bucket and was very good defensively. if I had to guess about 4 or 5 steals. I'll post stats tomorrow.rickoshay wrote:How did Wiechman do?

Re: Monroe Central @ Caldwell 12-2 Opener
After talking to/emailing the brother here is the run down.
1st qtr: Central 14 Eli Svercek 14- Caldwell with some turnovers, slow start
Half: Central 34 Caldwell 27- Central closes half on 14-3 run to reclaim the lead, Caldwell misses free throws and a few layups
End of 3rd: Caldwell 51 Central 42-Caldwell press changed the game, sped central up and pretty much ended it.
Final: Caldwell 71 Central 54-Caldwell actually led by 20 in the 4th qtr. Tail of two halves from the sounds of it.
Eli Svercek 31 points on 11 of 13 shooting including 7 of 9 from deep
Darren Hesson 15 points 7 rebounds 5 assists
Jensen Croucher 10 points, 10 rebounds
Jonathon Weichman 9 points 6 assists 6 steals
Also got key contributions from Bryan Sawyer 11 rebounds and held Wise to 6 points as well as Abrams and Willey.
For Central: 26 second half turnovers was the killer
Baker with 11 points (7 in garbage time)
Kinchen with 10 points, several others between 4-7 points
Game notes: Caldwell shot 9 of 24 from the foul line tonight and missed 5 layups, they could/should have put up 90. If they can defend they will be a tough game for most. Central, athletic and strong physically but have to learn to handle pressure according to the scouting report he just gave me. He seemed happy with the effort but said there was a lot of things to work on. Cograts Caldwell on an opening win.

Press was definitely the game changer. Completely deflated MC. Seemed like no one really wanted he ball after that. Still have some things to work on though, like free throws and their were a lot of unnecessary fouls. Other than that it was a great showing and a good opening night win for the Redskins.

Re: Monroe Central @ Caldwell 12-2 Opener
Great win for the boys to start, they showed great effort. I have seen them play better though. Like someone above stated, they left several points off the board missing foul shots and a few layups. I can see them scoring a lot of points this year. If they can force turnovers and keep the pace fast they could be really tough.
