Newcomerstown boys have been replaced by Fairfield Christian Academy, their best player is the Carpenter boy who is getting serious division one interest as a sophomore. There are some terrific games on the slate. All games played on the West Muskingum high school campus with varsity games played in the high school gym and junior varsity games played in the falls elementary (old high school) gym right next door. Great chance for people to watch a lot of basketball over Martin Luther King weekend next January.

*Newcomerstown boys and girls dropped out. West is in need of a girls team to play the Sheridan girls on Sunday evening and a boys team to play Licking Heights on Saturday afternoon.

This is going to be a really nice event over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend. There is a nice mix of some excellent boys teams and girls teams as well. Detroit West Side christian is a Michigan power house. Some headliner Ohio teams include; Newark Catholic who returns the entire state ranked team from a year ago, Bloom Carroll returns nearly intact a team that was ranked #1 in division 3 for the entire season last winter. Licking Heights is the favorite to win the Mid-State League. Tri-Valley/Sheridan/Maysville/John Glenn will likely battle it out for the MVL title, Westland is a division one school from the O.C.C. Fairfield Christian sports the Carpenter kid who is one of the top rated rising Juniors in the state. Harvest Prep/DeSales and Hartley are just a few seasons removed from state tournament appearances. Warren Local/Fort are two of the top programs in Southeastern Ohio, Ridgewood is a stronger member of the I.V.C. which may be the best small school league in the state. Throw in Rosecrans and all of their tradition along with Marietta/Caldwell/Lakewood/West M who are all on the rise and this makes a very nice boys field.

The girls field includes several teams likely to be highly ranked in the state next winter; Rosecrans/Harvest Prep could be a potential state tournament match up, Fort/River View sports two of the best teams in D2/3 and the Daugherty girl from River View is big time. Stow/Newark girls matches two division one powers with high level D1 recruits. Maysville/DeSales are two perennial powers. Sheridan will compete for the MVL title. Marietta has one of the best girls players in the state in the Dawson girl, John Glenn is a program on the rise. West M/Warren Local girls will match two terrific teams as well. This will be a very good weekend of basketball as well as a terrific fund raiser for a school that's athletic programs are 100% self-supporting.

We have had some teams drop because of coaching changes, scheduling conflicts, etc.

Fort will have two very nice match ups. The boys side playing Maysville. Girls side facing River View. Caldwell will get two games on the boys side with Rosecrans and Ridgewood.
We are excited to host so many schools and basketball fans from all over.
Meetings are being held weekly as we plan out every last detail for this event. There will be a lot of additional events taking place on campus this weekend as well. A very well known coach may be making the trip to speak at a dinner that weekend. The trip would be made from WVU...
Hotels will be discounted for fans and teams. You will recieve coupons and discounts at local stores, restaraunts and business for just attending the classic.
We will be selling single game admission, all-day pass, two day pass, or all weekend pass'. The gym will clear ONLY single game sections at the conclusion of each game. Pass sections will stay in the gym as we clean for the next contest.

Games start as early as 10 am. We are running a schedule similar to the state tournament (boys). While 10 am is not always the most appealing, we had to factor in travel time and other factors.

If you have any questions please feel free to email me at bcrane@laca.org

Thanks

Looks like there will be some great basketball games to watch. I will be there to watch my son for the two games the Redskins play and will probably make the trip the third day too. Its nice to have an event like this close by.

A few changes appear to be in the works for this as they try to balance schedules and make everyone happy. They are attempting to get the Fort boys and girls playing back to back so it is looking like the Cadets boys and girls may get to play Sheridan back to back if everything shakes out. That would pit Licking Heights and their coach Nate Clark against his alma mater Maysville. Wheeling Park ladies look to be the team to then step in and play River View.
