Oooops - I must have wrote down the wrong score - I went back and it seems that is correct.

I. St. Joe was 5-3 after the tourney - then lost to Notre Dame which puts them at (5-4).

... Jesco White thanks for your input! ... I have seen the Indians 2 times so far this season I AM a firm believer that Valley WILL prove to be one of the top 8 teams in Southern/Southeastern Ohio ... knowing that last years 10-10 squad was better than their record (being one of the better teams in Southern Ohio at the end of the season) , knowing who LVHS had returning (starting with Blake Yates) - the committee has KEPT the Indians where I felt they would be playing even when they lost to Huntington & Ironton ... patience ... the Indians ARE as good as the Valley faithful believe ... as you pointed out the holiday break will probably help Valley more than any other team in Southern Ohio due to all of the practice time missed due to the great run in football ... it will be fun to see the "results" in the 2012 portion of the season ...

ps ... the comment about beating Portsmouth Clay was not meant to be a slap in the face to the Indians at all, you play the teams that are on your schedule WHEN they are on your schedule ...

I think most people will agree, Valley will be set to make a nice run.Just getting the basketball legs under them and a 5-2 start with a great nucleus, they are set for a great 2012

pfloyd,

No worries on the Clay remark. I didn't take it as a slap at all. In fact, I think that was the perfect type of game for that time of season. With the much needed gym time during the break, it was the perfect time to play a young team that was rebuilding. I think you do an excellent job with your Elite 8 and I've always enjoyed reading it.

... great input, I appreciate the folks who are in "disagreement" backing up their argument with "reasoning" ... I will definitely relay all of this to the committee when it convenes to do the Elite 8 for the Week that IS ... that anonymous committee who puts this together then leaves it up to an old man to try to defend the committee's decisions -What is up with that????? ;-p

Earlier in this thread you said " it's who you lose to"

According to last week's rankings Huntington was T-4th and lost to your 44th place team.

What's the worst loss of anyone in the top 7 outside of that?

I don't know Floyd ... seems pretty shady to me ... South Gallia/Southern = same record with Southern winning the head-to-head match-up? lol ... And 11 spots behind? They should have at least been grouped together (perhaps even with Eastern) ... Where ever you place one of the top 4 Hocking teams - just automatically group them all together ... lol ... It might save ya some complaining on here.

Or better yet - use your 'cop-out' strategy with the Chesapeake/Ironton ranking and just make the 17th team on the list: Belpre, South Gallia, Southern & Eastern ...

(BTW) We've seen how a loss hurts a team (i.e. Southern dropping after the Eastern loss) ... How much value is put on a team beating a 'quality' opponent? If Southern beats Fed Hock Tuesday, and then beats Belpre in the Eagles Nest Friday - does that warrant a jump for the Tornadoes?

I think Southern is very close on the right spot but think SG is a little high.

... Huntington took the hit for the OT/holiday/on Wellson's home court loss - dropped one in the Elite 8 while Wellston jumped up 7 spots in the rankings ...

Lost to a team 40 spots behind them and only dropped from 4th to 5th?

Wellston jumped plenty.

For example if Peebles ( who is undefeated just like Huntington) would lose at Paint Valley (40 spots behind them) you would only drop Peebles 1 spot?

Btw....I'm just being a pain in the butt, and being from Jackson I'll never argue for Wellston to be higher. Lol.

... I've seen South Gallia 2 times in person and watched the South Gallia vs Southern game on Galliasports.com -I have even spent the night in a Holiday Inn Express on a number of occasions ... had I RAISED Eastern Reedsville UP in the rankings as high as Southern when they beat the Tornadoes I would not have been comfortable - as the committee is NOT sold on Eastern being better than many of the teams they would have leaped over in the rankings ... Southern dropped in the rankings below SG EVEN though they HAD beaten South Gallia earlier in the season ... <taking a deep breath now>

... all teams in high school have "hiccup games" - some one once said "but that don't make em bad" LOL ... I viewed the Wellston game as a hiccup for the Huntsmen ...

Top 5's don't lose games to teams in the 40's.

The only way to convince me you are right is to send me $20
