I think it's pretty awesome that the kids in Southeastern Ohio have an beautiful iconic venue, like the Convo, for which each teams goal is to play there at seasons end. The Ironton's, Warren's and Athens's of the HS basketball world are fun to watch make a tourney run but justt as good maybe better, watching a Cinderella like the 8-12 1997 Belpre Eagles team make that "March Dash" to Columbus!
HS basketball gotta love it!

I wish Athens could be included in that statement - but the 'Dogs rarely even get to the Convo ... maybe once in the last 20 years? Which happened to be last year ... :)

When I grouped those teams together I was referring to yearly favorites. This season those 3 are good bets to advance to district level play. Warren has struggled or at the very least had some very tuff losses in the Covo. Hopefully this season the Warriors and the Pups can win that elusive District title and have game #2 in the "Big Building"

... the 3 Weeks of the Convo - there is NO better time of the year ... in sectional play EVERY team has the opportunity to play their way to the Convo , not just the best of the best - EVERY team makes the post season ... EVERY team, player, coach has their eyes set on making THE TRIP - ALL roads in Southern/Southeast Ohio lead to the Convo, to Basketball Thirty, to where you don't have to ask what time it is , to where "the voice of high school basketball" resides for 3 weeks - Lou Horvath ... to hear their name announced by Lou before, during a game - priceless ... I wouldn't trade the 3 Weeks of the Convo for any other sporting event in high school sport - as a high school hoops fan you are in heaven for the 3 weeks of district/regional play ... the opportunity as a hoops fan to see TEAMS/athletes put everything on the line each time they touch the Convo floor - simply awesome ... as a fan you have the chance to meet/share information with other fans from all over Southern/Southeastern Ohio ALL with the same passion as yourself - high school basketball ... It's more than a destination , the Convo is an atmosphere that is the totality of the venue, Lou Horvath, the players, the fans, the student sections - all combined to make the 3 Weeks of the Convo the "goal" that it has become ...my tickets are punched, I look forward to THE TRIP down Rt. 33 just so I can sit in the cheap seats, pay $4.50 for a Coke/$4.50 for a slice of pizza - life is good ...

I always enjoy reading your list my friend. Probably won't run into you until our annual get together in the cheap seats, but know my thoughts are with you and the Mrs. once you head back to the James. Take Care Buddy!

I'm easy to find in the "cheap seats" , I look forward to seeing you and talking some hoops ...

I've always wondered why - with so many great seats closer to the court - Floyd always chooses the upper ring? ... lol ... he truly takes enjoying the 'cheap seats' to a whole new level.

I agree though ... 3 weeks at the Convo is awesome!!!

but I must admit ... watching Athens in the regionals on the gridiron - at one of the big stadiums in Columbus - is pretty darn cool too.

:)

Adena leaves your bottom by beating Unioto.

Jackson and West Union the only ones left....and West Union was playing Peebles pretty well tonight.
